Ambrose speaks with guests Vanessa Nisperos co-founder of The Fifth Element, and Terry Marshall Founder of the Hip Hop Media Lab. Both guests are members of BLOC - Building Leadership, Organizing Communities.

Vanessa Nisperos is a founding member of The 5th Element, a collective of women in all elements of hip hop working to empower women and challenge sexism. She is a hip hop aficionado, event producer, and activist who recently relocated to NYC from CA to pursue a Masters in Social Work.

FIFTH ELEMENT is a crew of women involved in hip hop in various capacities - as cultural producers, MC's, DJ's, break dancers, visual and spoken word artists, students, and community activists. FIFTH ELEMENT hosts workshops for skill and technique development in music, spoken expression and visual art, with women instructors knowledgeable in these areas. Participants experience hands on training in various mediums of urban art which nurture their creativity and self expression.

The Hip Hop Media Lab is an intermediary that uses culture and a multi media platform (CDs, DVD's, film, internet, radio, etc) to amplify positive messages and provide a guide for economic development for low income youth.
